I'm proud to be the protégé of the talented Hugo Ludeña

My Favorite Things tours bring some of the most opinionated and fascinating artists, cultural producers and community figures into the galleries to discuss their favorite works of art.

This week SAM offers a tour with Hugo Ludeña. Ludeña has been a Northwest photographer for 15 years, poignantly shining his lens on Latino culture. His documentary photography creates a colorful visual narrative of everyday activities and celebrations - from weddings to quinceañeras and community festivals. His photo essay "Latinos in the Northwest: A Cultural Journey," was widely exhibited throughout the region in 2007, aimed to break down barriers between cultures and celebrate local Latino life.

Three years ago, Ludeña launched Latino Cultural Magazine to highlight Latino contributions to arts and culture. The quarterly fine arts publication also serves as a networking tool for artists. Today, Ludeña continues to mentor youth through the medium of photography. Since 2007, as a teaching artist for South Park PhotoVoice Project, he helps to connect young residents of the South Seattle neighborhood to their culture and community through photography.

In this tour, Ludeña will explore art from the Incas, photographs of Frida Kahlo by Imogen Cunningham and one Andy Warhol Photograph.
