24 Hours of Gratitude Challenge

Are you up for a gratitude challenge this weekend?

Election season was toxic and emotions are still running high for a lot of people. Understandably so. I even had a racist encounter while walking home and it took a lot out of me, but I did not respond with hate or violence. If I had a reset button on this past week I would press it without hesitation. But as we know, there are no do-overs in life. So, I will do my best to not allow hate into my heart. I will focus on the good, make sure those around me see good, find ways to do good and hope that the ripple is far reaching.

A while back, I did this challenge; the goal is to go 24 hours without complaining about a single thing. If you mess up, it's ok to start over. You might be surprised at how hard this can be. By doing so... I was much more mindful of how I think (and what I spend my time thinking about) and it shone a light on the ways I could choose to be more positive.

So, today I once again embark on that challenge and I invite you to join me. I challenge you to be mindful of your complaining for (at least) 24 hours. This isn’t about living a complaint-free life. It's about challenging yourself to do something that’s potentially life-changing during the only time that matters... today.

Seeking inspiration and knowledge

When you don't know what to do next, ease up on yourself. See how much more you can accomplish, how much easier life is, how much more you enjoy life when you aren't forcing yourself. Forcing can turn into fear - fear that the  job won't get done, fear that the natural way of things would evolve won't be right, fear that you're not good enough.

Learn a different way, learn the way of love. Relax. Sit back. Let go for now. Do something different. Breathe deeply. Burn a candle. Read a poem. Light some sage. If fear is present, send it away. See it, feel it, then allow it to leave. Return to the task in love when it feels natural, right, and on time.

What do you really want?

Make an agreement with yourself that this year you will create all that you want in your life. Be accountable to yourself; keep a journal and each day write one thing that you could do, one thought you could change, one place you could go, that would help you to transform your reality into all that you desire.

With each generation we learn more; we grow more.

Look back on the women that came before you... your mother, your grandmother. Think about the agreements that they made that you no longer wish to keep.

As you consider this, remember that the girls/women that follow you in your lineage will be seeing you as their role model, their example. So, also imagine which agreements you are making now that they may want to move forward with, or not. With each generation we learn more; we grow more.

Enjoy the journey

There is no rush. There is only the time we are given. What we choose to do with this time and how much of it we spend on each endeavor is a fine balance. Look to nature for guidance. The tree does not rush to shed its leaves. The flower does not feel the need to hurry through winter to blossom in spring... all happens in its own good time. Enjoy the journey... we never really arrive at the destination

Embrace The Darkness

Darkness is always there...
and at times we must face it, acknowledge it, embrace it.
The night sky show us, there are always glimmers of hope
with its sparkling stars scattered throughout the black.
Then the sun comes up, as it always does.
Everything is more exposed, less dramatic.
Spend more time soaking in the light, cherishing the warmth.
The darkness will pass... it always does.

Live Up To The Spirit That Is In You

Unfortunately, we all have a tendency to treat the ones we love the most, the worst. They take the brunt of all of our work and busy life frustrations. This is the thing that people regret the most when reflecting on their lives. Let's be conscious of the energy we bring to our loved ones. They deserve the best of us. Let's commit to checking our bad mood at the door and let the people partners and family be greeted with a warmth that says, "I'm so happy to be home."

Behind every successful woman is her belief in herself

women motivation

I have been fortunate to experience much success in my career and if I had to chalk it up to one basic principle, it would be that I never believed I couldn't do or have everything I wanted. Granted, I have worked hard, but I know for sure that my belief in myself was key in reaching my goals. Don't ever doubt that you can create all that you desire in this life. ❤️

Sweeter Than Silence

Today I remind myself to be a good listener and really hear what someone is saying without formulating my response while they are speaking. Today I will refrain from judgment and giving advice.
I will speak only words that are sweeter than silence.

What is the true meaning of love

We are all growing, learning and evolving. Some days we do better than others. Let's agree to give others the grace and space to make mistakes and have bad days; just as we would like them to give us. This is the true meaning of love.

What Makes You Come Alive?

The world is currently going through a period of punctuated disequilibrium. It is time to say goodbye to the practices of the past; business-as-usual no longer exists. It is time to develop new and creative ways of looking at life, of thinking, of working and relating to one another. We are exiting an era, where greed, power and competition dominated; and entering an era, where a sense for beauty, an approach of caring and compassion, love, tenderness and kindness take over. It is time to work together to develop a place of peace where social inequities diminish and support for one another emerges. This is our time to stand up and be examples for what we envision for ourselves, and for humanity.
I believe that change begins with each one of us. So, let’s decide what makes us come alive and how we can incorporate whatever that is into our days, every day. How can we feel more alive in each moment? And when we build this awareness and take the steps toward bringing more meaning into our experiences, it will become contagious and spread to those around us, and those around them...and so on, and so on.
Think about your life and break it down into a typical day. Try to contemplate what goes through your mind during this day. We have a tendency to put others before ourselves…is this something that you are doing as you scan through your day? We are so accustomed to living as a slave to the list…what needs to be done, who needs our attention, where we have to go. Think about the things that are working for you - the time you spend that brings you feelings of joy, gratitude, contentment, calm or serenity…the things that fill you up. Really identify what those things are. How often are you doing these things? Is it often enough, or is it something that you feel you need integrate more of into your days. And then what are the thoughts and activities that you want to minimize or eliminate? The things that bring you down, add stress to your life, make you feel tense, angry, sad and deflated. How can you let these things go? OR how can you change your thoughts associated with these things - how can your reaction be different?
We need to make sacred space for ourselves. This doesn’t necessarily mean a physical space…rather a place inside of ourselves that we nurture and grow…the place where we hold our acceptance, love and gratitude for ourselves. We need to keep our awareness on filling this space each day. Instead of expending energy thinking about what is not right about ourselves, or what could be better, we can instead focus on filling this sacred space within us. The thoughts and activities that make you come alive will help you to keep this space full. Even 15 minutes a day doing something that makes you feel really good, really happy, really free…will make a huge difference in your life.
Something as simple as the shower or bath that you take each morning or evening can be a source of serenity. Instead of rushing through your shower, quickly shaving and shampooing your hair, all the while thinking about everything that needs to get done and how many minutes you have before you have to leave so you are not late….instead…get in, and breathe deeply, enjoy the feeling of the warm water running over you. Let your whole body relax and melt into it. When you wash your hair, really notice how nice it feels as you massage your scalp. If you are taking a bath, sink into the water and feel the weightlessness of your body, then carry that weightlessness into every part of you, especially your mind. Find a peaceful, stillness that you can recognize. Be aware of how you got there, then take yourself back to that place for a few minutes each day. If you start to feel stressed or someone says something that makes you feel uptight…breathe and bring yourself back to your peaceful place. Make your mind your ally instead of your enemy. You are in control. Thoughts don’t go anywhere if we don’t feed them. There is no technique…it’s just being aware. Awareness is the key. Be kind to yourself.
Be careful to not identify all the things that make you come alive that require other people. We need to be able to feel completely alive on our own. If your list relies to heavily on the input of others, it will set you up for disappointment and resentment. Keep this feeling in your control. This way you will be able to share your peace with those around you, rather than expecting them to create it for you, which no one can ultimately do anyway. This is something we need to do for ourselves.
Give yourself a daily dose of peace. Be guided by the longing for this peace. If you are sincere with this longing you will have what you need and want. Celebrate the areas of your life that are working. And shine the light on the areas that aren’t. Be honest with yourself. Get together with others and share...our shared human-ness is where we find friendship, intimacy and true connection.

How To Kick Start Your Day With A Guided Morning Meditation

I don't know about some of you, but lately, there has been something in the air and its affecting a lot of the people around me, including myself. So, what's a girl to do when she can't find balance? Meditate. That's right! As much as I love to listen to my 90's R&B while working, this week I started a new approach and I am mostly listening to the "focus" playlists on Spotify.

So go ahead and kick start your day with this Guided Morning Meditation. It will help you find your "Zen" no matter where you are. I tried it this morning at my desk and it made a big difference. I am determined to not let any little problems throw me off and I will focus on the good. If you have any good meditations tips for beginners and on how to mediate effectively at work, then please send them my way. Have a wonderful day!

We should not take the worries

Sometimes you have to move on without certain people. If they're meant to be in your life, they'll catch up.

We should not take the worries of the world and the problems of people in our lives, and make them our own. It is not our job to fix what we perceive as broken. The best we can do is love without judgment and lead by example. One day, one person at a time; things will shift.

Choose happiness

It definitely takes courage to trust yourself more than you trust the opinions of others. As much as we may seek out others to find the answers in our lives, our hearts and our intuition know best. Lay your fear aside and tune into the whisperings of your heart.

Be the first to apologize... forgive... and forget. There is no room in this life for pain that can be released by making a choice. Choose happiness.

Keep your curiosity alive. This is what keeps our perspective fresh and doors open. Continue to press forward and open your mind to the endless possibilities that await! Don't look back at what might have been or what "should" have been. Instead, think about what you can do now, in the present. Be curious, not expectant.

Take each experience for what it is - a building block, an opportunity to learn and grow, a blessing. Even the "negatives" are necessary, even if it's hard to see the greater purpose in the moment. So let's take it all in and be thankful for this beautiful life we have! It's a roller coaster for sure, but let's not forget to put our hands up and enjoy the ride.

Keep people in your life that truly love you, motivate you, encourage you, inspire you, enhance you and make you happy. If you have people who do none of the above.... let them go!!

The greatest gift we can give to another is our presence and our compassion. The next time a friend, lover or family member is suffering, simply say... "I am here for you." Listen without judging and resist the urge to give endless advice. This loving gesture is, many times, just what is needed to help someone get through a difficult time.

Mad, passionate, extraordinary love

I love you
for all that you are
all that you have been
and all you’re yet to be.

Find someone that isn't afraid to admit they miss you. Someone that knows you're not perfect but treats you as if you are. Someone who couldn't imagine losing you. Someone who gives their heart to you completely. Someone who says I love you and proves it. Last but not least, find someone who wouldn't mind waking up to you in the morning, seeing your wrinkles and grey hair but still falls in love with you all over again...
