Sam Garriott Antonacci

Art Walk
By Sam Garriott Antonacci
Seattle, Washington: Sam Garriott Antonacci, 2010. One-of-a-Kind.

3.125 x 5.25" cloth-covered book style container that opens to a full page slip-in pocket on back board, which contains a 6 panel double-sided accordion book (2.6 x 4.7"). Cut-out shoe illustration on pocket. Laid in a black lightweight paper box with ribbon pull tab. Colophon tipped to underside of box lid. Illustration of shoe tipped to topside of lid. Mixed media with Prismacolor, paper cut-outs on Arches Black & Thai unryu paper.

Sam Garriott Antonacci: "It is a variation on a book that is currently [March 2010] in an exhibition on Bainbridge Island with a theme of 'Art Couture: Hats & Shoes.' The book is a visual rumination on the path and steps that we all take as artists, one step at a time, stumbling along as we try to find our way and the medium that suits us, our voice, etc. It is housed behind a cut-out of shoes, and can be folded around to change the different images that reflect some of my own steps and influences as an artist. The illustrations are a combination of my own art (after illuminated manuscripts, Magritte, and Monet), and paper cuts from postcards and correspondence from various far-flung artist friends sending encouragement, commiseration, and inspiration."
