Politics of pattern -- work in progress

Patterns and other decorative surfaces reflect a point of view. They can reinforce assumptions that a culture has about beauty, power, and taste. They can expand those assumptions, or contradict them.
The power of these surfaces to communicate societal expectations as "norms" rests in the very fact that we tend to see them as innocuous surfaces, reflecting "the way things are".

These are snapshots of my work on progress. Should be done before the end of the week. Stay tuned!
