17 Essential Seattle Summer Activities



The bluest skies you’ve ever seen are in Seattle! There is no better place to be than in Seattle during the summer. As the weather warms up and you’re looking to shake off those winter blues, here are some activities for your consideration. There’s no reason to be bored this summer! Start planning now! 

17. EMPEMP Museum
The EMP Museum was designed by Frank Gehry and is housed in a building that has been voted both one of the most beautiful buildings in the world and also the ugliest. You’ll have to decide for yourself. What’s inside the building is an amazing museum filled to the brim with musical artifacts from legendary Seattle rock stars like Nirvana and Jimi Hendrix. The wonders don’t end there! They also have iconic artifacts from the worlds of Science Fiction, Fantasy, and Horror! There is something for everyone at the EMP Museum. Make sure to stop by!
16. Camp Long
“I went camping in West Seattle this weekend!” “Oh, sounds fun! Wait.. what??”
That’s right folks! You can camp in a tent in West Seattle at Camp Long! Camp Long is a 68 acre park that invites guests to stay overnight and enjoy nature without having to drive out of the city! It’s a fully loaded campground that includes cabins, a forest, and even a place to rock climb! It’s one of Seattle’s best kept secrets and it’s a great way to experience the outdoors without worrying about driving the distance.


15. FerryWashington State Ferries
If you’re in Seattle, you have to get on a ferry. You’ll get some of the best views of the city as you are ferried across the water to one of the many island neighbors of Seattle. As you hop on, you’ll be free to roam around the multiple levels of the vessel. Want to sit inside and watch the scenery while reading a book? Go for it. Want to stand on the bow of the ferry while yelling “I’M KING OF THE WORLD!”? Go for it! Whatever you do, make sure to take a ride when you visit!
14. Bite of SeattleBite of Seattle 2014
Where you at, Foodies? On the weekend of July 18, Bite of Seattle 2014 comes to town at Seattle Center! With the sun out and about during the summer, you won’t want to miss out on delicious food and fun times with Bite of Seattle! The event features local restaurants from all around Seattle and they’re all there with one goal in mind: to entice and excite your palate! There will be food, festivities, and entertainment. So, c’mon down and join in the fun!
13. WaterfrontSeattle Waterfront
One of Seattle’s most treasured sites is the Seattle Waterfront! Here, you’ll find the Seattle Waterfront, the Seattle Great Wheel, the Washington State Ferries, and more! You’ll get great views of Elliot Bay and the amazing sights of Puget Sound. If you’re a fan of food, there are a lot of seafood restaurants to satisfy your seafood cravings. Don’t forget to check out Ivar’s Fish Bar on Pier 54!
12. ChihulyChihuly Garden and Glass
Words cannot express just how awe-inspiring the Chihuly Garden and Glass is. It is an exhibition hall of the works created by Dale Chihuly, a legendary glass blower. Your mind will be blown as you discover how glass could turn into such a beautiful piece of art! Located right by the Space Needle, it is very hard to miss!
11. Pac SciPacific Science Center’s Spy Exhibit
Earlier this year, the Pacific Science Center unveiled the secret world of SPIES! They brought in an extensive collection of espionage-related artifacts that are on display for curious eyes to see! Get tickets now! The exhibit is here until September!

Woodland Park ZooWoodland Park Zoo
Offering one of the most spectacular zoos in the Northwest, the Woodland Park Zoo continues to amaze and delight people of all ages with their exhibits. The zoo is filled with nearly 300 different species for you to learn about and see. During the summer, the zoo hosts concerts at the zoo and brings in talented artists for you to enjoy! Come on out, enjoy the sun, and immerse yourself in the world of nature!
9. AquariumSeattle Aquarium
Want to know where you can eat the best sushi in Seattle? Look no further! Jokes aside, the Seattle Aquarium is not to be missed! Housed right beside the waters of the Puget Sound, the aquarium offers an inside look at the creatures that live in the waters all around us! Whether you want to see cute otters holding hands or learn about our coastal ecosystem, you’ll have a blast!

Have a passion for hiking? Want new challenges that reward you with amazing views? Make sure to conquer some hiking trails in Seattle! A local favorite is Snow Lake! It is located on I-90 past the city of Issaquah!


7. Space NeedleThe Space Needle
Standing at 605 feet tall, there’s no way you can miss the beautiful Seattle Space Needle! Built for the 1962 World’s Fair, it represented a glimpse into the future of science and technology. Now, it stands as a beloved icon of Seattle. Don’t miss out on one of the best ways to see the city!






6. ArboretumThe Arboretum & Japanese Garden
One of Seattle’s hidden gems, the Arboretum is home to some of the most beautiful assortment of flowers that cannot be found anywhere else! It’s perfect for reading a book, taking a stroll, or going on a date! It also includes the Japanese Garden which has absolutely beautiful flowers, architecture, and scenery!






5. Gum WallThe Gum Wall
This could be one of the most disgusting destination spots in the world, but it certainly is colorful! It all started when patrons of the Seattle Theater began sticking their gum and coins onto the wall while standing in line. Now, the gum wall is nearly 50 feet long and 15 feet high! Have you ever wanted to leave your DNA in a foreign place away from home? Here’s where you can do it without getting weird looks!
4. MuralMovies at the Mural in Seattle Center
Love the movies? Love the outdoors? Put those two together and you’ll be happy at Movies at the Mural in Seattle Center! Starting July 26, you can watch FREE movies at Seattle Center this summer. Bring out the lawn chairs and your favorite movie snacks and get ready for an amazing outdoor cinema experience!

Golden Gardens Park
California isn’t the only place with nice sandy beaches and beautiful waters. Stop by one the most beautiful beaches in Seattle for some bonfires, volleyball, and barbeques! Golden Gardens Beach is one of our favorite destinations in Seattle on hot, sunny days. Located in Ballard, the park offers great views of the Puget Sound and Olympic Mountains.


2. Pike Place MarketPike Place Market
Want to see flying fish? Visit the Market! You’ll find everything from the fish throwers, to beautiful flowers, to amazing foods at the market! It is an essential piece to the Seattle experience and you won’t want to miss out.
