Highlights from Capitol Hill Block Party 2016

This year’s Capitol Hill Block Party definitely exceeded my expectations. The line-up had everything from big names to emerging artists. The producers did an amazing job at providing a platform for smaller bands to tap into new listeners.

Pokemon Adventures: And it begins...

Lately Netflix and chill have been my thing. Major adulting. But that might soon change. I downloaded the Pokemon Go game and my inner nerd was so happy. So, I ditched the usual and took Picasso for a walk... well, more like my reason to go catch pokemons around the neighborhood.

This app is amazing. It's going to make me all types of active or it's going to ruin my productivity. Only time will tell, but in the meantime, here are some photos of the pokemon adventures with my partner i crime. I plan on documenting them all, so stay tuned. 🤓  This is what my life has lead up to.

Yelp Presents: Found in Fremont

Last week I had the opportunity to photograph Yelp's biggest event of the year. Found in Fremont at the Fremont Foundry! The venue was packed with  local Yelpers and Fremont based vendors. It was like a block party all under one roof! Here are some of my favorite photos from the event:

ShingleTown Ballard Northwest Pub & Eatery

Last night I fell in love with Ballard all over again!

I stopped hanging out in the area because I got tired of the same old places, so its great to see a new spot in the neighborhood. I had the opportunity to attend ShingleTown Ballard's soft opening and I had a blast. This Northwest Pub & Eatery highlights the history and culture of the lumber and shingle mills that occupied the historic Ballard in Seattle until 1958.

It's such a gorgeous venue. There's no bad seat in the house! It has a great atmosphere, huge selection of craft beers and cocktails, delicious food menu and fantastic customer service. Definitely give this place a try if you are looking for a chill, low key pub and eatery in Ballard. Great new addition to the neighborhood. I definitely plan on going back.

Seattle No. 1 for techies looking to flee California

The top neighborhood here by far is West Seattle, which garnered nearly 13 percent of the search activity in our market. In fact, West Seattle is not just the No. 1 neighborhood in Seattle. It’s No. 1 in the country. They don’t call it California Avenue for nothing.

Pop Departures: Shocked Many, but Inspired Even More

Here's a little something I wrote about the upcoming exhibition at the SAM for Girl Power Hour. Let me know what you think! And of course, don't forget to check out Pop Departures. Opening Oct. 9th.

10.08 Pop Departures: Shocked Many, but Inspired Even More

Pop Departures_Kiss V_1964_Roy Lichtenstein
In the 1960s, art for the first time embraced the brash world of commercial culture, advertising, and mass media—images of shiny newness, youth, and seduction. Pop art electrified artists, audiences, and critics alike. It changed our understanding of art, and the ripple effects of its seismic shift are still felt today.
This Fall, re-live the pop revolution at the Seattle Art Museum.
Pop Departures presents the bold visions of American Pop artists, including the works of icons such as Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, Robert Indiana, and Claes Oldenburg. Opening Thursday, October 9th.  This exhibit investigates how artists in subsequent decades have continued to critically engage with and redefine consumer culture and the cult of celebrity.
2014 PopDepartures jamolina00Pop art presented a challenge to traditions of fine art by including imagery from popular culture such as advertising, news, etc. With pop art, consumerism and the image culture surrounding it were put on bold display, and many artists rebelled against traditional notions of artistic style through their retooling and imitation of commercial printing techniques.

Perhaps no artist is better known for his manipulations of the subtleties of marketing and the projection of desire than Andy Warhol. In the late 1950’s, Warhol created magazine illustrations for the upper echelon of New York society and gained experience in decorating shop windows. He was already celebrated as a highly successful illustrator before launching himself as Warhol the artist, celebrity, filmmaker, director, impresario, publisher, and self-styled pop icon.

The exhibition takes us beyond the pioneers of Pop and to the work of subsequent generations of artists for whom Pop art has been an inspiration or a vehicle for critique. See works from the 1980s and ’90s by artists such as Lynn Hershman Leeson, Jeff Koons, Barbara Kruger, and Richard Prince. Continue with work made in the era of digital markets and social media by Margarita Cabrera, Josephine Meckseper, and Ryan Trecartin—contemporary artists who use Pop as a point of departure.
2014 PopDepartures jamolina05
Pop art changed the way we consume media and redefined as a part of our market economy. What some considered a fad that would soon fade away became one of the most enduring artistic legacies of the last fifty years and its effects are still felt today. Pop Departures will blow open your notions of Pop and take you on a journey through the last 50 years of American popular culture.
